Blackballed and out of coaching for three years, the feisty and outspoken Lonnie Delaney was lucky to get hired to coach the hapless Del Mar University Lady Runnin’ Rhinos. This is her last shot. As her players succumb to the many pitfalls facing young women, Lonnie tries to help, but her strong advocacy for equal treatment of female athletes challenges the male dominated culture of Del Mar's athletic department. She creates enemies in the department who force her to choose between advocating for her players and keeping her job. Under the Rim is a coming of age story about independent and competitive young women. Alternately funny and insightful, sad and circumspect, it teaches about love, teamwork, and self-sufficiency.
